Crowley Main Street has resources like funding, marketing tools, design and historic renovation guidelines and data and demographics to help both new and existing business and property owners.

Opening A Business on Main Street

Opening a business can be a tedious thing. We have the tools to help make it easier on you.

Here is a step by step guide to opening a business in the Historic Commercial District aka Main Street:

1. Apply for Federal Tax ID Number with Internal Revenue Service.

2. Apply for Louisiana State Sales Tax with the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

3. Apply for Acadia Parish Sales Tax Number at the Acadia Parish School Board, 2402 North Parkerson Avenue, Crowley, LA

4. File Business Documents with Louisiana Secretary of State

5. Apply for Unemployment Number with Louisiana Workforce Commission.

6. Apply for Resale Certificate with the Louisiana Department of Revenue, if resaling merchandise or food.

7. Apply for a City of Crowley Occupational License at Crowley City Hall, 425 North Parkerson Avenue. Application and location will be reviewed by City Inspector.

8. Fill out Property Tax information with the Acadia Parish Tax Assessor

9. Set up insurances

10. Set up accounts for water, electricity and/or gas. LAWCO (Louisiana Water Company), Cleco, Centerpoint Entergy (gas).

11. Set up banking; accounts, credit card processing

12. Apply for a Certificate of Appropriation for any signage or facade improvements being done on building. This will be reviewed by the Crowley Historic District Commission. Temporary signage may be put up in the form banner. Banner has to be removed after 30 days.

13. Once City Inspector approves application, you will receive a 30 day temporary license costing $50.

14. After first 30 days, you will need to report your total sales to the City of Crowley Tax Department for occupational license price adjustment.

15. Renew both your parish and city occupational licenses yearly as well as property taxes!

Grants

Along with the Louisiana Main Street Program, Crowley Main Street offers facade grants to help improve the appearance of downtown while encouraging good design. Tax Credits

A tax credit is a direct, dollar for dollar, deduction in the amount of money a taxpayer must pay in taxes for a given year. There are multiple tax credits available to property owners including Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credits and State Commercial Tax Credits.
